I'll bet you're overweight? How did I know? Because 25% of men are. Which means that 75% of men are outside being active with their families right now and winning the battle against obesity. The rest of you are sitting on your rump, surfing the Net.

I have made a decision to "slow the grow"in my own life. My own Dad has developed diabetes and hyper-tension, so I need to stop pretending that it won't happen to me. Right now I weigh 103kg (227lbs). I want to get my weight down to 80kg (176lbs).

I have joined a group personal training class (www.stepintolife.com.au) which is great because I actually do enjoy working hard a getting sweaty, and the group environment is very supportive. The cost is equivalent to a gym membership, but it is closer to home, and you get a personal trainer to bark orders at you and help monitor your results.

Food will be the big thing for me, We usually eat quite healthy meals at home, but we also have a pantry stocked with biscuits and I love SUGAR! I will have to make sure I eat a good breakfast each day, instead of my usual cup of coffee and nothing else. Will I am out I love to stop for a big lunch, but these will have to become visits to Subway instead.

I'll let you know how I go.

Update: Had a BAD strain in my calf muscle in just my second session, bummer. I am still putting in one hard seesion a week and making sure I walk for a mile or so each day. Stay tuned.

Update 2: My calf muscle is pretty good now. I have attended about 6 sessions, but I haven't been walking as much as I want - lazy. The trainer has us complete a 4km time trial every month or so. I completed my first 4km trial in 35 minutes. My second trial was 33 minutes, and I have lost 2 kgs (4.5 pounds).

Update 3: I can now make it a 45 minute session without stopping. Admittedly I jog really, really slow, but when I started I couldn't even jog around the block, let alone jog around the block for 45 minutes. 4km in 29 minutes, lost 7 kgs (15 pounds).
