The first three trimesters and the birth were the easy bit...
All you had was a Mum that spent nine months growing a belly and doing her best to intergrate the philospohy "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times" into her mood swings. Your main jobs were back-rubs and picking up things Mum couldn't bend over for. Sometimes Mum would start crying. Now you have a baby. Sometimes the baby stops crying. I have eight weeks before the 4th trimester starts. I have been told that it doesn't last forever, so here are some of the things I plan to do to whether the storm. - I will be super helpful, not just by doing whatever I am asked to do, but by actively looking around the house and seeing what needs to be done. Men have a great ability to not see that laundry need to folded or dishes are piling up. I will try to put Mum goggles on.
- I will go to bed earlier. I won't not stay up late just to watch Letterman, or the shows I recorded while the baby was crying. If we both get as much sleep as we can, we will be able to meet the demands of a newborn better, and not kill each other.
- I will change lots of nappies. It is not just Mum's job.
- I will help to cook dinner.
- I will make sure Mum gets to have a life outside of feedin, nappies and sleep.
